New Appointment System

Dear Patient

Because of the high numbers of patients not attending their booked appointments ( 211, with Turbo Clinic, not attended in November) and after listening to your feedback  about the difficulties experienced in accessing appointments,  we are changing our appointment system from the 22nd of January 2018.

The changes:

  1. We are expanding our nursing team and appointments will be offered for chronic diseases and minor illnesses with the nursing team where appropriate, to free GP and advanced nurse practitioner appointments up for patients with more complex and difficult problems

  2. From February 2018 we are delighted to inform you that we have a GP registrar (fully qualified doctor in her/his specialist training to become a GP) who will form part of our practice team, making more appointments available to you.

  3. To make sure that you see the right person for the right problem our receptionists are likely to ask you some questions about the nature of your complaint

  4. Appointments will be bookable no more than 2 weeks in advance, not the present 6 weeks

  5. We will be offering more routine appointments available on short notice within one or two days.

  6. Normal appointment times will remain at 10 minutes

  7. We will create follow up appointments which are shorter (5 minutes) as they are focused on the progress of the problem  and will mostly be done over the phone

  8. We will still be offering longer appointment up to 20 min where appropriate e.g. for women’s health examination or very complex / multiple problems which cannot be done in a normal 10 minute appointment

  9. Your medications will continue to be reviewed annually by your GP and you will be contacted if any changes are required. If you also require a long term condition review your GP will not need to contact you separately as they will have had a look at all your results and medication before you see the nurse for your follow up appointment. The same will apply to patients with asthma (if you only have the one condition). Please note some patients might have their medication reviewed by our pharmacist Debbie Needham.

  10.  For all urgent appointment/advice requests after our normal appointments have been filled the duty GP or ANP (advanced nurse practitioner) will phone you back to discuss the problem. We do not operate a sit and wait service – therefore if you do come to the surgery our receptionists will advise you that you will need to wait to be called back to triage the need for an urgent appointment.

Can we take this opportunity to remind you that all emergencies should call 999
